New OWASP Project

Projects Under Review

  • 2013 Project Summit
    • I continue to work on organizing the 2013 OWASP Projects Summit.
    • We are now two weeks away.
    • I am primarily focusing on the project leader workshop content and getting logistics sorted for the summit and project talks.
    • Work is now underway to solidify the outcomes for each summit session.
    • I am also working towards promoting the sessions and talks on our social media channels.
    • I hope to get all participants to sign up for each session before the day of the event.
  • OWASP Marketing
    • I continue to work on finalizing our contract with the marketing and design agency we hired to create our OWASP identity package.
    • I have asked our designer to send us his final bill.
    • We have now gotten the final mock-ups for the Connector e-mail template which is the last piece left.
    • Additionally, our Grants and Fundraising intern has kindly put together a branding resources page for the community.
    • You can find the the Brand Resources page here.
    • You will also find brand usage rules and guidelines on this page.
  • Grants and Fundraising Intern Summary
    • Kait continues to work hard on her daily tasks every week.
    • You can read her weekly reports by following the link above.
    • She is currently helping to put together the remaining books we will be reviewing at the summit, and uploading them to Lulu.
    • We will be ordering hard copies of these books to make it easier for the reviewers.
  • Project Grant Fund Spending Policy
    • I worked to finalize the Project Grant and Fund Spending Policy this week.
    • There has been some confusion over the manner in which this funding can be spent, and there is confusion over who can manage this funding once it is awarded.
    • The guidelines outlined in this policy are meant to provide clear expectations of how grant awarded funds are to be managed and spent by all OWASP Projects.
    • I hope these guidelines clarify some of the confusion.
  • Daily Project based queries and requests
    • This has not changed much since I began the post: questions are very similar in nature.
    • Global AppSec questions.
    • Funding queries.
    • Travel availability.
    • Project based administrative help.
    • Project status information.
    • Several project donation questions.
    • Marketing questions.
    • Grant funding questions.
    • OWASP social media updates.
    • What's happening with projects, questions.

Remote Participation Update for 2013 Project Summit

Unfortunately, we were not able to raise enough funds to facilitate remote participation for the 2013 Project Summit. It is certainly an aspect of our summits that we find incredibly important, and we will work hard to make sure remote participation is an option our contributors have in 2014.

Interview with Simon Bennetts: OWASP ZAP Project Leader

  • Mark Miller, upcoming Project Leader for the OWASP Podcast Series, caught up with Simon Bennetts, OWASP ZAP co-Project Leader with Raul Siles.

Message for all Project Leaders from Matt Tesauro, OWASP IT Administrator

Wanted to give the leaders a heads up that the Mailman server for lists.owasp.org is going to be migrated this weekend from Rackspace public cloud to Rackspace managed cloud. It will be a two phase process with an initial data migration tonight, followed by a test of the new server then a final data sync. There's a small possibility of downtime during the migration. However, since Barracuda is our SMTP inbound server, any incoming mail will be spooled should the email server be off-line for a period of time.

So, if there are some slow posts or responses from the lists, you've been warned. Every effort will be made to keep every post but nothing with technology is 100%.

Have a great weekend.
