Rui is an active research scientist in the area of web and mobile security. His research works focus on discovering new security threats against software-as-a-service Web applications and developing effective mitigations. Many of his research results are highly visible to the public, being reported by CNN, CNET, Forbes, MSNBC, Network World, ZDNet, and many others. His research has helped industry-leading companies identify and fix critical security flaws in their web systems, including those from PayPal, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Dropbox, Yahoo!, Microsoft, Freelancer, etc. He has been honored with a Best Practical Paper award from the flagship security conference IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy and a PET Award for Outstanding Research in Privacy Enhancing Technologies from PET Symposium.
