Jim Bird is an experienced software development manager and project manager, with more than 25 years of experience in software engineering, IT integration and application operations. Jim is currently a co-founder and the CTO of of a New York-based Alternative Trading System (ATS) for secure and confidential institutional stock trading. As CTO, Jim is responsible for the company's technology strategy and information security programs, as well as managing the company's software development organization.

Prior to this, Jim worked as a senior consultant to IBM's global financial markets practice, and as a management consultant to stock exchanges and banks globally, including the Deutsche Borse, the Australian Stock Exchange, the Italian Banking Association, the Saudi Arabian Central Bank, and the Korea Exchange. For more than 10 years, he was the CTO of a financial technology company (now part of NASDAQ OMX) that developed and implemented IT solutions for stock exchanges, clearing houses and banks in more than 30 countries around the world.

Jim has been involved with OWASP and SANS for several years, focusing on the "Builder" side of AppSec. He blogs regularly about secure software development on his personal blog "Building Real Software", and at the SANS Application Security Street Fighter Blog, which he helps to manage. Jim is the author of books on secure Agile development and secure DevOps.
