I have gained a high level of practical experience in software engineering, focussed on web development. During my studies I worked as a freelance software engineer for several businesses for whom I have designed and developed multiple websites. On several projects I was responsible for the entire development life cycle which required me to investigate and analyse the clients’ requirements in order to design, develop, implement and test the completed systems in a timely manner.
Prior to commencing my degree, I successfully completed a Higher National Diploma in Software Engineering throughout which I was exposed to several languages and technologies including PHP, MySQL, .NET, MSSQL and Oracle Databases. This course was also highly focussed on web development and therefore I have gained extensive knowledge in the use of HTML5, CSS, jQuery and Ajax among others.
During the final year of my degree I am writing a dissertation focussed on online application security. This will be accompanied with a fully functional and secure online file sharing system developed using PHP and MySQL. In order to achieve this, I will be carrying out extensive research in this field and I will be following a modified version of the Feature Driven Development Methodology in order to successfully incorporate the User Interface design and testing. I will also be applying the Open Source Security Testing Methodology to aid in security testing and to provide quantifiable security test results.
