Purpose: "Advances in technology have led to the creation of intelligent and connected devices -- Internet of Things (IoTs) -- that can sense and act upon the environment. In not-so-distant future, IoTs will be pervasive in all aspects of human life such as: home, education, healthcare, and commerce. Since IoTs will access and act upon physical and digital reality surrounding humans, their security and privacy is of prime importance. A lack of appropriate security in IoTs can lead to grave outcomes including physical harm to humans. It is crucial that we study the IoT architectures and technologies to uncover the security flaws. And guide developers how to securely develop IoTs.
Goal of the project is to extensively research the various architectural models (peer-to-peer and client-server models) used by IoTs such as: Connected Home Devices (smart TVs, gaming consoles, toys) and Sensor devices (monitoring cameras, motion detectors). And identify the flaws in design, implementation and communication models.One of the goal for this project is to publish these security flaws and associated risks. Second goal for the project is to provide the secure security architectural patterns for IoTs to guide secure design and development. "
