Projects/Internships/Weekly Report 05 16 2014
From OWASP
Currently Working On
- Social Media Campaigns:
- The Women in AppSec call for applicants. For this week I alternated between sending out tweets and Facebook posts. The schedule for the Women in AppSec social media is Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Monday and Friday I sent out tweets, Wednesday I sent out blog/Facebook posts.
- Open Source Showcase participant announcements. The schedule for the OSS social media is Tuesday and Thursday. This week, I focused mostly on tweeting since I published the Facebook post last Friday.
- Project Summit session announcements. The Summit social media has the same schedule as the Women in AppSec Program.
- Starting yesterday, Thursday, I will be broadcasting the social media from the OWASP platforms, as well as my own personal social media accounts.
- Project Inventory:
- Since the deadline for the project inventory was last Friday, Monday I inactivated the projects that did not respond by Friday or over the weekend.
- There were a few project leaders who responded after the deadline. Since Samantha has final say over the projects, it will be up to her whether the projects will be fully reactivated. For the time being, I am removing the inactive banner and moving the projects back into the active spreadsheet on the project inventory.
- Project Task Force:
- For the two weeks Samantha has been away, I have been monitoring the Project Task Force page, to help in anyway I can. So far, there has been no incidences on the page.
- Project Review Responses:
- There are three projects that are currently being reviewed and they each need two reviews. I have been monitoring the responses and when they reach the required two reviews, I will let Sarah know.
Lessons Learned
- I thought there might be some trouble after I inactivated projects, but the project leaders who responded after the deadline were very cooperative and understanding. Hopefully, this means they will be more attentive to their OWASP email accounts and kick start some action on neglected projects.
- The many responses I received from project leaders about the project inventory was that they just didn't have the time for the project anymore, or there wasn't much interest in the project. Especially for those project that were abandoned due to lack of time, I hope that someone else will be able to pick them up.
Additional Comments
- I'm excited to be putting out the social media content I've created out over the official OWASP accounts.
