The Revival of OWASP Delhi Chapter - OWASP Delhi Revival Meet - July, 2014

The wait of near about 4 years to have a local chapter meeting at OWASP Delhi was over for security enthusiasts in Delhi NCR (National Capital Region). The Delhi chapter witnessed its revival chapter meeting on 26th July, 2014 at Adobe Systems in Noida (Delhi/NCR)

The chapter was dormant and the only activity we were seeing in Delhi since past few years was the annual OWASP India Infosec Conference which was organized by OWASP India.

The July chapter meeting was on a Saturday evening and was announced well in advance by the newly appointed chapter leaders of OWASP Delhi - Vaibhav, Sandeep and Vishal. The meet was free and open to all but prior registrations were required as the details of folks attending the meet were to be handed to the Adobe physical security personnels for security reasons.

The enthusiasm was clearly visible through the huge number of registrations and people requesting for last moment registrations as well. We apologize to those who could not attend the meeting because last moment registration was not possible. The approximate number of people who turned out for the meeting was around 40-45 which was sufficient enough in a lazy weekend late afternoon.

We started the meeting with a detailed presentation on OWASP as an organization and OWASP Delhi chapter. We had a good discussion around the overall activities of OWASP and the expectations of chapter members from the local chapter. The chapter leaders also made it clear that there will be regular meetings that will happen in the chapter from now onwards. The OWASP Delhi chapter meeting will now be organized as a combined meeting with null - the open security community (one of the largest infosec communities of India) which will obviously focus larger set of audience and increase the outreach of OWASP Delhi chapter.

Followed by a detailed introductory session we had a talk on Botnets by Utsav Mittal. Post we had a tea break followed by a session on Cyber Hygiene named Combating Cyber Crime by Priyanka Tomar. Both of the sessions were pretty engaging and nice in terms of content and delivery.

We reached the end of a 3 hour meeting and had an interactive feedback session and also decided the dates and presentations for the next combined OWASP and null meeting to happen in August.

Overall it was an amazing meeting and we were happy to see the amount of enthusiasm in audience about OWASP and its local chapter activities and we are hopeful to witness more interesting chapter meetings in the upcoming months

Note - OWASP in India has 17 registered chapters in various cities with OWASP India as a separate chapter which organizes the annual OWASP India infosec conference which is a paid gathering of infosec enthusiasts in Delhi. OWASP Delhi is an independent local chapter and operates under the OWASP local chapter guidelines

P.S. - We cannot forget to graciously thank our chapter sponsors Adobe Systems for sponsoring such a wonderful venue and the tea/snacks for chapter meetings
