2011 OWASP International Board of Directors Election

Established in 2001 the OWASP Foundation is a open community and resource for software security. Today we are recognized globally with citations as resource of creditable information. Individuals typically have learned about OWASP after searching the internet for information about software security. You found a reliable source of knowledge and extremely open and passionate community. Individuals attend vendor agnostic local chapter meetings, regional and global conferences participate and commit code one or many of our projects and understand the community that is OWASP. Anyone can start a new project, new chapter or lend there local experiences to help a OWASP Global Committee.

The Board of Directors of the organization will consist of six elected by its membership seats. As an organization we desire to conduct democratic elections of the board members and committee chairs to enable bottom up advancement of our mission. OWASP Foundation Bylaws

The organization is governed like any other non-profit with a written mission, ethics, core purpose and bylaws

  • Bylaws are a set of rules adopted by an organization or assembly for governing its own meetings or affairs. In cases of bylaw ambiguity or procedural disagreement, the General Assembly shall decide for itself the meaning of its bylaws or the appropriate procedure to be followed. Between General Assembly meetings, the Coordinating Committee shall decide these questions subject to review at the next General Assembly meeting. Bylaws Committee and its coordinators are charged with assisting with the interpretation of the Bylaws and the resolution of procedural questions.

International Board of Directors Primary Responsibilities

1. It is the board's responsibility to create and review a statement of mission and purpose that articulates the organization's goals, means, and primary constituents served globally. Support the mission and purpose.

2. Select the Director(s) and employees. Boards must reach consensus on the Director responsibilities and undertake a careful search to find the most qualified individual for the position.

3. Support and evaluate all employees. The board should ensure that the employees have the moral and professional support he or she needs to further the goals of the organization.

4. Ensure effective planning. Boards must actively participate in an overall planning process and assist in implementing and monitoring the plan's goals.

5. Monitor, and strengthen programs and services. The board's responsibility is to determine which programs are consistent with the organization's mission and monitor their effectiveness.

6. Ensure adequate financial resources. One of the board's foremost responsibilities is to secure adequate resources for the organization to fulfill its mission.

7. Protect assets and provide proper financial oversight. The board must assist in developing the annual budget and ensuring that proper financial controls are in place.

8. Build a competent board. All boards have a responsibility to articulate prerequisites for candidates, orient new members, and periodically and comprehensively evaluate their own performance.

9. Ensure legal and ethical integrity. The board is ultimately responsible for adherence to legal standards and ethical norms.

10. Enhance the organization's public standing. The board should clearly articulate the organization's mission, accomplishments, and goals to the public and garner support from the community.

Milestone #1 Confirmed Candidate Official Announcement will be announced on Jun 9th 2011 at the - Global AppSec Europe in Dublin, Ireland. Candidates should declared there candidacy by June 8th by editing the wiki, inserting their name and linking to the user-profile that shall have a WHY ME summary of how they plan to help OWASP Foundation and what they have done in OWASP to be considered a accomplished and proven leader in the community.
