<b>Abstract:</b>The Layer 7 SSG implements fine-grained authorization by inspecting  an XML transactions and determining whether  should be permitted to enter the network, based on it's contents, the SSG security policy, and any identity information. Example: a purchase request that is: (i) over $3000 (ii) intended for vendor "Acme Corporation" (iii) sent from a specific network address range, and (iv) within a specified time period  will pass the SSG to the target application, while an XML transaction that fails any of these conditions would be rejected. SAML and WS-Security are key standards for implementing  fine-grained access control in an open, multi-platform environment.
