Speaker: Bruce Cowper - Microsoft
Are our heads really in the Cloud? Abstract: Cloud computing seems to be a big buzzword that is gaining traction and concept people are slowly buying in to. The challenge is with vendors putting the word ‘cloud’ against a product or service the line is blurred to what this actually means. In this discussion, we will look at cloud computing in some it it’s many guises to look at how the technology is being used and why, but more importantly look at many of the questions we and the vendors should be asking ourselves. We will cover topics such as security, privacy and compliance with a view to answering one simple question; are our heads really in the clouds?
About The Speaker As the Virtualization Lead for Microsoft Canada, Bruce is responsible for the overall Virtualization strategy, from the Desktop to Datacenter and in to the Cloud. He works closely with Partners, the Government, large enterprises, Industry Associations and the Community across Canada. He comes from a security background in Virtualization and secure system design, forensics and data centre design. As the Virtualization lead, Bruce leverages his real life hands-on experience to relate to the challenges faced today. Bruce is a prolific speaker and can frequently be found in the media and at conferences across Canada and beyond.
Bruce is a founding member of the Toronto Area Security Klatch (TASK), the Ottawa area Security Klatch (OASK) and an active member of numerous organisations across Canada. Before joining Microsoft and moving to Ottawa, Bruce held positions on the board of directors of several IT companies, championing the development of technical excellence and the customer experience.
Bruce holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering as well as industry standard qualifications.
