STRATEGIC DOING GROUPS
 
Committees are the backbone of all strong volunteer organizations; it is the volunteers that make things happen. Volunteers who participate in a committee contribute to the successful operations of the OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community.
 
 
 
There are also personal benefits to be gained by volunteering for a committee:
 
• Exchange information and ideas with your peers
 
• Opportunities to broaden your professional relationships
 
• Gain technical expertise
 
• Improve your leadership skills
 
• Develop professional relationships and strengthen your ties in the security industry
 
• Build your knowledge of the industry through contributing to the work of the committee.
 
• Gain expertise in new areas or gather new ideas for your current area.
 
• Plan and attend social, educational and networking events.
 
 
 
The OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community has several standing committees and encourages all members to become involved and join one of the following committees to help guide the direction of our chapter.

Events Committee: Tom Brennan, Evin Hernandez, Tara Williams, Khizar Sheikh, Arthur Hedge, Terence Mahon
 
 
 
• Develops a yearly calendar of events
 
• Continues to improve upon OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community’s special events, and come up with new ways to attract members to events
 
• Works with the OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community to identify potential sponsors for events
 
• Collaborates with other OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community committees to identify events that could meet member needs
 
• Develops a marketing plan to advertise events
 
 
 
Speaker Review Committee: Tom Brennan, Evin Hernandez, Tara Williams, Israel Bryski, Robert Shullich, Guy Osa, Ken Belva.
 
 
 
• Works with the Events Committee to proactively find speakers for OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community events
 
• Identifies topics of interest for the OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community
 
• Reviews and selects speakers through an established criteria
 
• Actively promotes upcoming speakers to the membership and beyond
 
• Assists in the coordination of speakers
 
 
 
Mentorship Committee: Bev Corwin
 
The Mentorship Committee is responsible for the design, oversight and direction of The OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community Mentoring Program.
 
 
 
The goal of the Mentoring Program is to provide professional development opportunities for future leaders of OWASP Metropolitan Cyber Security Community through mentoring relationships that enable the exchange of knowledge, leadership development, and career or professional development.
 
 
 
Membership Committee: Tom Brennan, Evin Hernandez, Tara Williams, Guy Osa
 
• Secures financial support for chapter activities from appropriate individuals, vendors and corporate sponsors
 
• Establishes a list of all potential sponsor opportunities at varying financial levels
 
• Assists with developing a sponsor package
 
• Ensures that the vendors/sponsors receive proper recognition to the membership for their support
 
• Ensures supporters receive all benefits as outlined in the sponsor agreement

OWASP Foundation (Overview Slides) is a professional association of global members and is open to anyone interested in learning more about software security. Local chapters are run independently and guided by the Chapter_Leader_Handbook. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit professional association your support and sponsorship of any meeting venue and/or refreshments is tax-deductible. Financial contributions should only be made online using the authorized online chapter donation button. To be a SPEAKER at ANY OWASP Chapter in the world simply review the speaker agreement and then contact the local chapter leader with details of what OWASP PROJECT, independent research or related software security topic you would like to present on.
