Joining the Global Industry Advisory Board

The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a worldwide free and open community focused on improving the security of application software. Our mission is to make application security "visible," so that people and organizations can make informed decisions about application security risks. Everyone is free to participate in OWASP and all of our materials are available under a free and open software license. The OWASP Foundation is a 501c3 not-for-profit charitable organization that ensures the ongoing availability and support for our work.

OWASP achieves its vision and goals through projects, the local chapters, conferences and global initiatives. The GIAB has the purpose to coordinate activities relevant to industry and global bodies across different projects and regions and by thus leverage synergies between different initiatives. Ideally the GIAB will spawn new initiative ideas and coordinate and combine new ideas and help in promoting our new project results across industries and around the globe.

Becoming a member of the GIAB is an opportunity to directly impact the future of OWASP Foundation and how we help our mission globally. As a Global Committee member you are the voice for this industry focus area and serve the community around the world. Ideally members may act as or work with peers as a regional spokesperson and he/she is the conduit for global issues that has approx., 5-10+ hrs per month to volunteer time to the OWASP Foundation.

To encourage focus and participation, we suggest that volunteers focus on the activities of the GIAB and do not over-commit their time in many different initiatives. Individuals are welcome to participate if they would like to, on efforts, conference calls etc.

Note that to prevent conflict of interest, International OWASP Board Members cannot endorse candidates for the GIAB and the GIAB should only have one (1) person from the same company. Diversity of different regions of GIAB members would be highly preferred in order to achieve a truly global outreach for our community.
