==== Presenters and Presentations ====
We are forever looking for volunteers to present at the chapter meetings, so if you've seen something interesting or you have something to say, please let us know.

Often, when we approach potential presenters, we tend to get the following response – “I don’t think my topic is interesting enough”. We just want to stress that as long as the topic is security related – we’re all ears! We’re just a bunch of nice people wanting to learn/share our knowledge of the security domain. So if you would like to present or know of someone that does, please contact us.

Presentations must be vendor agnostic (no selling of products or services), and please review the Speaker Agreement linked above.

OWASP Brisbane is ramping up again!

''Speaker: Alex Penrose''

''Topic'': Recent security and privacy breaches highlighted the need for an increased focus on security, however this can be at odds with tight deadlines. How does one test for security vulnerabilities, and is there such a thing as too much security? JollyFrogs (aka Alex) will demonstrate a vulnerable fictitious banking application and a popular method that hackers use to find vulnerabilities in code, which you can use during software development. Also, he will demonstrate how to wrap additional protection around a finished software executable with a focus on reducing development effort.
==== Presenters and Presentations ====

==== Presenters and Presentations ====

In April's meeting, Ben Waugh's presentation will be on the topic "How does an organisation embed a secure development life-cycle into a highly distributed (both physically and structurally) software development environment comprising hundreds of developers?".

Since joining the security industry from a software development background, Ben has worked in the financial services industry advising to projects on a range of security issues as well as developing and implementing various technologies to improve detection of malicious or fraudulent activity. However, he has most enjoyed his role driving development of an application security program from the ground up. In his spare time he dabbles in a number of security (and non-security) software projects, including the BeEF framework.

Ben will present how to use a number of OWASP tools, including OpenSAMMM, ZAP as well as some home-grown initiatives, to win over developers and management as part of a lightweight and agile application security program.
'''Next Brisbane Chapter Meeting - March 5, 2013'''

Hello everyone! We hope you've all had a fantastic start to the year!

We will be starting 2013 with Scott Brown presenting at March's Brisbane OWASP chapter meeting.

Scott is a Brisbane local who cut his security teeth in the Banking and Finance industry. He's held various roles over the years, including software development, software security, access and identity management, network and network security. Scott's now fighting the good fight, working for CERT Australia.

Scott will present on two topics that have had a real impact on Australian based businesses, both in terms of reputation and dollars. Ransomware and VOIP fraud have both made the media several times in the last few months. Come along to hear a little more about both topics and some recommendations to avoid falling victim to either.

''Venue:'' Red Hat Offices, Level 1, 193 North Quay, Brisbane.

''Time:'' 5:30pm for a 6pm start. Lifts to Level 1 will be locked after 6pm. Please arrive before then!
It’s been a while! We hope that all of you had a wonderful time with family and friends over the Christmas/New Year break, and we're sure that you’re all ready for more OWASP geekiness.

We do have a few exciting announcements...

Firstly, we would like to welcome David Jorm to the chapter leader’s team. As most of you are aware, David’s been helping us behind the scenes with organising the meetings for a while and has become an integral part of the team. We would like to thank him for his efforts and look forward to building the chapter as a team this year.

For those that aren’t aware, there is an OWASP Appsec Asia Pacific Conference this year held in Sydney from 11-14 April. Justin Derry, as the co-chair of the planning committee, will tell us about all the cool stuff planned for the conference and what’s happening in OWASP Australia in April’s meeting.

For more details on the conference, go to https://www.owasp.org/index.php/AppSecAsiaPac2012.

==== Presenters and Presentations ====
Now that all the announcements are done – we would like to ask for your help.

''Next Brisbane Chapter Meeting - Tuesday 13th March''

In March's OWASP Brisbane Chapter meeting, Justin Derry will be presenting a session titled ''Cloud Security - A case study on security myths and what to watch out for''.

This presentation takes us through two real-world examples of deploying high risk applications into the cloud. We take a look at the cloud based technology, what the providers supply in relation to security controls and whether they are effective. We then step into what controls and risks were mitigated on the client side to ensure a secure deployment into the cloud. The presentation is based on two real-world examples of high profile clients deploying into Amazon and Microsoft cloud platforms. You’ll understand how a successful deployment can be achieved, as well as learning about some of the controls you need to build in, and the myths about deploying securely. At the end, you will be able to better understand how to deploy into the cloud for your own systems.
==== Local News ====

In July's OWASP Brisbane Chapter meeting, Miguel Madero will present a session titled "Security in Silverlight".

<br>

Miguel will show in several demos different Application Security concerns specific to Silverlight Applications commonly overlooked. He will teach us how to avoid being hacked and protect our data with some basic tips. These are some of the topics covered in this lightning talk:

*Common Hacking Techniques
*Security as an Aspect
*End to end data protection
*UI Level Security
*Authentication Mechanisms
*Authorization and User Context
*Service Level Security

Miguel has been programming for fun for the last 15 years when he realized that it was better to play with QBasic and Pascal than Prince of Persia. He found out that he could actually get some money out of this hobby so he started a couple of web companies 5 years later and then a Development Shop before moving to Australia to work for Readify where he’s now having fun coding some of the coolest projects in Australia. He discovered Silverlight two years ago and it’s still keeping him busy and entertained.
==== Local News ====

In July's OWASP Brisbane Chapter meeting, Miguel Madero will present a session titled "Security in Silverlight".

<br>
